Our History

The Journey

Five decades have passed since our humble beginnings as a Tamil Bible Institute. We continue to grow and expand, becoming a full fledged and recognized Bible College, covering 2 languages and offering various programmes from a certificate to a bachelor’s degree. MTBC is grateful and proud to bear testament of God’s faithfulness in our mission to prepare leaders for ministry.

1972

A year of many firsts. Established as Malaysia Tamil Bible Institute (MTBI) by founder and the first President Rev. Chris Thomas. The first term started on the 29th of May that year with Rev. Jeremiah Abel as the first Chairman of MTBI. Adding to that list, it was the first Tamil Bible School in Malaysia & Southeast Asia.

1974

Another first as our 3 students graduated in our first Graduation Exercise. MTBI also relocated to Tanjung Bungah, Penang with Rev. Fred Seaward becoming the second president.

1977

A 6 months campaign organized to evangelize and plant churches in Malaysia among the Indian community with Rev. Jeevandam from Chennai. More than 50,000 heard the Gospel, 4000 accepted and 457 were water baptized.

1978

Rev. Jeremiah Abel became MTBI’s third President. The year also saw the purchase of a piece of land and our subsequent relocation to Hutan Melintang in Perak.

1988

MTBI relocated to Semenyih in Kajang, Selangor to provide easy access and better facilities for both our students and MTBI's staff.

1993

The year saw the introduction of the Bahasa Malaysia Department in MTBI, catering for the Bahasa speaking students from the Orang Asli and East Malaysian communities.

2010

MTBI purchased and relocated to it’s 3 double-storey shop lot premises in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. Campus expansion and upgrading works were carried out to provide a more conducive working and study environment.

2015

A significant year as MTBI received its ATA Accreditation. The year also saw the start of the Bachelor of Theology Programme as well as modular classes being introduced.

2018

With the ATA Accreditation recognition, the status of the institute was upgraded to a college and we officially became Malaysia Tamil Bible College (MTBC).

2019

With further expansion in mind, MTBC purchased the adjacent lot. Covid brought new challenges and the college adapted by introducing online classes. The year also witnessed our first batch of Bachelor in Theology students graduate.
